Are you a fan of the royals? Then you’re probably following updates about Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and the impending birth of their first child.
Just weeks before the baby’s arrival, the couple has officially moved out of Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace, London. They've lived there since their engagement in November 2017.
Their new home has become Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate. As announced by Kensington Palace in November 2018, "Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses, and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate."
However, The Duke and Duchess’s official office will continue to be based at Kensington Palace.
The exact reason for the couple's relocation hasn’t been disclosed. However, it's been reported Prince Harry "wants to escape the goldfish bowl of royal life" as he and Meghan raise a family. The move means Meghan and Prince Harry can establish their own royal household. So they are separate from Prince William and Kate's at Kensington Palace.
Royals author, Sally Bedell Smith, previously told PEOPLE “The arrival of Meghan has changed the dynamic of the relationship in a fairly significant way...It is inevitable and practical because it gives Harry and Meghan some freedom to build up their own collection of interests and charities.”
However, they’re likely to keep their successful Royal Foundation and groundbreaking mental health campaign, intact.
“They have brought many charities working in the same sector together to empower them and lend their positions,” Bedell Smith shared. “But they will increasingly follow their own respective interests.”
Frogmore Cottage is a 10-bedroom royal residence. It’s located on the same grounds as Frogmore House, where Meghan and Prince Harry hosted their wedding reception and took engagement portraits.
The cottage was reportedly revamped to include a nursery, private gym, and yoga studio. These renovations created some delays with the move. This meant Prince Harry and Meghan moved into their new home about a month later than expected.
